In this conversation, Julie discusses this new book she co-authored with Echo Swinford.
Geetesh: You and Echo both create PowerPoint templates and themes in “real life” – how much has your work influenced the decision to write this new book, Building PowerPoint Templates.
When our clients began upgrading to PowerPoint 2007, we were charged with designing and building templates for the new platform. Some clients sent us templates they built themselves and asked us to diagnose and fix the problems they were having.
The 2007 program was radically different from previous versions. Product documentation was sparse or incomplete, so there was a lot of trial and error on our part to determine what worked and what didn’t. We developed a process for building templates that functioned properly to create presentations. We decided to share our process and our findings in the book.
Geetesh: Who is the typical reader for your book, and what can they expect as the largest takeaway from your book?
Julie: Our book is designed for intermediate and advanced PowerPoint users who already build templates and want to improve their work, or for those who want to learn to build templates.
I hope our readers take away the knowledge that well-built templates are essential to help other users who use templates to create presentations. It’s all about saving time and preventing problems down the line.
