LinkedIn’s SlideShare Acquisition: Conversation with Amit Ranjan

Amit Ranjan is the Cofounder and COO of SlideShare, the world’s largest community for sharing presentations on the web. With 50 million monthly visitors, SlideShare is amongst the top 200 most visited websites on the web. Recently SlideShare was acquired by LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional network site.

In this interview, Amit discusses LinkedIn’s acquisition of SlideShare.

Geetesh: Recently LinkedIn acquired SlideShare – what implications does this have for the online presentation sphere?

Amit: Presentations are one of the main ways in which professionals capture and share their experiences and knowledge, which in turn helps shape their professional identity. Presentations also enable professionals to discover new connections and gain the insights they need to become more productive and successful in their careers. LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network, and with SlideShare becoming a part of LinkedIn, professionals are likely to use presentations even more.

Geetesh: LinkedIn has always been a business networking site – will SlideShare now become part of a business eco-system, and will we see more presentation related options on LinkedIn?

Amit: Yes this is likely to happen in a phased manner. SlideShare will get integrated closely with LinkedIn, and this will result in new possibilites both on LinkedIn and SlideShare.
