Geetesh: Ash, tell us more about your company, Overnight Design.

At Overnight Design, we utilize global time zones to deliver a next-day graphic design service to our UK, European, and US clients.

Overnight Design is an international team of branding experts and presentation specialists, based in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

We are known for a heroic, stress-free graphic design service that:

It’s not just PowerPoint for busy presenters. We believe that the people who need presentation design the most should not be designing their own. We support designers, account managers, sales teams, marketers, and senior management with their workflow too. To make things completely seamless and stress-free we integrate into their preferred collaboration tools (Asana, Trello, etc.) to deliver a next-day graphic design and video production service for every kind of busy business professional.

Our branded graphic design service includes:

  • White papers, customer success stories, brochures, and posters
  • Banner adverts and graphics for the web
  • Infographics and bespoke illustrations
  • Animated explainer videos

Say goodnight to do-it-yourself design.

Our mantra is ‘carpe noctem’ which is Latin for ‘seize the night.’ We encourage our clients to relax, take the night off, put the kids to bed, spend time with their loved ones and enjoy a glass of wine in the evening.

We are on a mission to reduce the need for our clients to work overtime, stopping those endless late night screen sessions, allowing them to unwind and enjoy their evening, reassured that Overnight Design will do them proud.

Geetesh: What brings you to the Presentation Summit in San Diego?

Ashley: I’ve been on a long search to connect with fellow presentation professionals and PowerPoint black belts and was absolutely delighted to discover that we have our very own industry event. I first registered in 2019 and have been patiently waiting for global travel to open up again, so that I could attend in person. It’s also been a dream of mine to visit California, now I’m finally ticking a couple of boxes off my ‘bucket list’.

Overnight Design has been a well-kept trade secret for our existing UK, European, and US clients, and we are now looking for exposure within our industry and ultimately growth from more new customers located in the US time zones.

I’m excited to join this amazing community, to connect with the MVPs and authors of the books that have guided my 25-year career working with my beloved PowerPoint.

Geetesh: Can you tell us more about international design sensibilities? How do you ensure that your designs are suitable for a global audience.

Ashley: Know your client, wherever in the world their audience is.

“Think global, act local was the old mantra. When handling design for an international brand, we have to be aware of the market in which the work will appear. Many of our client’s design guidelines and brand values invite us to represent diversity in our image selections. We must always consider if our images, icons, and graphics are culturally appropriate and will not cause offense. As far as content goes, our clients are the ones who really know their own content. We do not write copy ourselves but we design for subject matter experts and consultants and typeset their content in any one of multiple languages.

As an example of diversity in design, when Heineken’s Global Sales Academy asked us to design their workshop materials for sales reps in Nigeria, we quickly arrived at two important considerations:

  1. Power cuts are common in the region, so we decided to design posters and not electronic presentations. Not only did the printed posters look great and help deliver the message but they can still be effectively presented during power outages.
  2. We need to visualize action shots of sales reps working in the alcohol industry. All the best stock photography that we could find contained only white people and we knew this could alienate our African audience. Our solution was to redraw the images as silhouettes that could represent all ethnic groups.
