Cindy Tingley
Cindy Tingley juggles many roles, but they are all tied to her main passion, which is creating and delivering engaging and impactful content for learners, and teaching others to do the same. She is the Events Director at the Presentation Guild, and a vocal proponent of utilizing presentation design to deliver maximum impact and retention for the audience and eliminate the dreaded “Death by PowerPoint.”

As owner and “Chief Presentation Evangelist” at her consulting and training company Tingley Presentations, she specializes in showing others how easy it can be for anyone to become a great presentation designer by simply applying basic design principles.

In this conversation, Cindy talks about the Presentation Guild‘s sponsorship of the upcoming Presentation Summit 2022, being held on location in San Diego, CA, and virtually this year from October 9 to 12, 2022. is the official media partner for the Presentation Summit.

Geetesh: Cindy, can you tell us more about the special relationship between Presentation Guild and the Presentation Summit?

Cindy: I wasn’t present when this relationship first developed, but I’ve heard many stories from those who were. It all started about 20 years ago when Rick Altman was hosting a conference known as PowerPoint Live, which was the precursor to what evolved into the Presentation Summit.

A lot of the PowerPoint MVPs and other industry insiders were present and started discussing how great it would be to keep the energy of the conference going year-round. As a result, in 2016, founding President, Echo Swinford, along with a small but mighty army of dedicated presentation specialists, launched the Presentation Guild.

Because of this almost symbiotic relationship, many people still believe that the Summit and the Guild are one and the same, but they are not. We have always supported each other but are completely independent.

I, myself, am a prime example of this great collaboration we have. I currently serve as the Events Director for the Presentation Guild and am also the Social Media Director for this year’s Presentation Summit. And I am certainly not alone in doing double duty for both organizations.

Geetesh: What brings you to the Presentation Summit in San Diego this October?

Cindy: What brings me to San Diego this year is what I can only refer to as my annual family reunion. Not only do I always learn something from the incredible presenters, but the sense of community is beyond compare. No one is a stranger at the Summit!

Geetesh: The Presentation Guild recently partnered with the Training Magazine Network. Please tell us more about this partnership, and how this will benefit Guild members?

Cindy: I have been a friend of the amazing Gary VanAntwerp (TMN’s VP, Communities / Executive Producer, Webinars) for several years now, and I have always enjoyed the webinar content that TMN produces, many of which feature Guild members.

Once I took over my Guild Board role this year, I started thinking about what I could do to increase event offerings for our members. It just seemed like a win-win situation to tie our messaging together and share resources during sessions that our members were presenting. This initiative introduces their audience to what the Guild has to offer and vice versa. Thankfully, Gary was immediately on board and the rest, as they say, is history!
