To make pictures even more effective, you can apply various effects and borders to them, and also use some preset Picture Styles that PowerPoint offers. Other than these options, there is the new Picture Layout option in PowerPoint 2010 that converts selected picture(s) into SmartArt — this option works similarly as the Convert to SmartArt option, that is used to convert text to SmartArt.
