This morning I read an article about the new Microsoft Office 12 that will be coming out some time in 2006. It seems that Microsoft has discovered that no one uses all the new features they’ve added to Office over the last 10 years or so. The theory is that the features are all buried in menus and are now too hard to find.

For years, Microsoft has been trying to add features to Office without them getting in the way of people who already know their way around the software. Unfortunately, the company was a little too successful at making its innovations unobtrusive. In user testing, Microsoft found that nine out of every 10 features that customers wanted to see added to Office were already in the program.
They simply don’t know it’s there, Chris Capossela, a Microsoft vice president, told a developer crowd last week.

The title of this blog is a little misleading. I’m not actually proposing “death to PowerPoint”. I don’t hate PowerPoint. I don’t even dislike it. In fact, I actually think it’s one of the most useful persuasive tools ever devised. What I am proposing with this blog is death to bad PowerPoint.
