Arpit DhariwalArpit Dhariwal is a Senior Product Manager at SlideShare, leading the content acquisition team. The team is committed to offering multiple ways to share ideas and expertise of users with fellow professionals through SlideShare. Prior to joining LinkedIn in 2012, Arpit worked with multiple internet and technology companies. Arpit has a B.Tech from Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information & Communication Technology and an MBA from S.P. Jain Institute of Management & Research.

In this conversation, Arpit discusses SlideShare’s slide creation options.

Geetesh: SlideShare has always been an option to upload and share presentations – what motivated the new slide creation abilities?

Arpit: The evolution of highly visual platforms like Pinterest and Instagram, over the past few years has reinforced what we’ve seen with SlideShare: visual stories have always been the most popular and compelling content on our platform. However, they are challenging and time-consuming to create for many people. This presented a great opportunity to service content creators by building a ‘Create’ functionality on SlideShare.

Through a special integration with Haiku Deck, SlideShare users can now easily create compelling visual presentations. This marks a new phase of exploring tools that will help our users share their professional expertise and insights through the power of pictures – for content marketing, professional branding, and knowledge exchange.

Our vision is to provide the simplest way for professionals to share knowledge visually. We’re really excited to see presentations our users will create.

Geetesh: Tell us more about the typical user who would use the slide creation options on SlideShare? Also will these be automatically shared?

Arpit: Professionals who have great expertise and thought leadership to share – just not the time to invest in creating amazing decks – will now be able to create insightful visual presentations in no time at all. SlideShare is now the one-stop destination to upload and create presentations – that’s true for existing users and we now anticipate that this ability will help attract a new set of people. Creating original presentations helps users build their professional brand, expand their network and followers, and educate fellow professionals.

Presentations created using the tool will be shared automatically with the 70M+ SlideShare community and would also be discoverable on search engines. Users can also choose to make these presentations private.
