Mike Power owns and runs Neuxpower, the company behind the popular file compressor NXPowerLite and the amazing PowerPoint add-in, Slidewise. He has been running Neuxpower for more than 25 years, which makes him feel a tiny bit old. When at work he enjoys designing useful software, and is really loving the challenge of making Slidewise powerful, yet easy to use.
In this conversation, Mike talks about Slidewise’ new version 2.1. Slidewise is a PowerPoint add-in that helps users to find, edit, and control their presentation content more efficiently.
Geetesh: Slidewise has become an integral tool for me to create what I call ‘healthier’ presentations. If presentations were like people, that would equate to non-obese, fit presentations that do yoga every day, and end up living healthier, longer lives : ) Do you believe that Slidewise is something of this sort, or am I taking this analogy too far?
Mike: This is absolutely a key aspect of Slidewise. Over time presentations get messier and less ‘healthy’ as content is imported, combined, or copied around. Slidewise makes it easy to identify ‘unhealthy’ content and quickly remove or replace it. Clean, healthy presentations live longer, and are less difficult and time-consuming for people to manage.
Geetesh: Mike, can you tell us more about the new features and improvements in Slidewise 2.1? Also, what is this new free version of Slidewise?
Mike: It became clear following some screen shares with customers that we needed to improve the user experience before adding more features. So, our focus with version 2.1 was mostly on ease-of-use and feature discoverability. Some of the changes were quite small but collectively they make a huge difference.
We also fixed some bugs, added German language support, and reworked the replace font feature, so it’s now around 10x faster than the previous version.
Finally, the free version of Slidewise is a new mode that anyone can access at the end of a 30-day trial. It gives you unrestricted access to the high-level size breakdown of your presentations, and you can still expand the images node to quickly find large images. We felt that this would give great value even to occasional PowerPoint users, and hopefully help us to spread awareness of Slidewise faster than we could manage with our puny small-business marketing efforts.
