Through her workshops, coaching, and resources, Chantal’s mission is simple: to help people shine when they present one step and one story at a time.
In this conversation, Chantal talks about her new book, Microsoft PowerPoint Mastery.
Geetesh: What inspired you to revisit and expand the book now? How do you define mastery for today’s presenters?
Chantal: When the first edition came out, it was all about helping people move beyond the basics of PowerPoint. But the way we create and deliver presentations has changed so much since then—remote meetings, hybrid events, and now AI tools like Microsoft Copilot are part of our daily workflow. I wanted this second edition to reflect that reality and give readers practical strategies to stay ahead.
For me, “mastery” isn’t about memorizing every button in PowerPoint. It’s about understanding your audience, crafting a clear message, and using the right tools to make that message shine. It means leveraging design principles, Slide Masters, and yes—even AI—to save time without sacrificing quality. Mastery is when your slides support your story, not distract from it, and when you feel confident delivering that story in any setting—boardroom, classroom, or online.
Imagine you’re preparing a quarterly update for your team. Instead of spending hours tweaking fonts and colors, mastery means you start with a well-structured template, apply consistent design, and use AI to summarize data into clear visuals. You walk into the meeting focused on your message—not on whether your slides look “good enough.”
Geetesh: The book dedicates an entire section to Slide Masters and layouts — areas users often avoid. What’s your best advice for someone intimidated by those features?
Chantal: I get it—Slide Master and layouts sound technical and a little scary at first. But here’s the truth: they’re your best friend if you want consistency and efficiency. Instead of fixing fonts and colors on every single slide, you set up your design once and let PowerPoint do the heavy lifting. You are creating a template that works for you.
My advice? Start small. Begin by creating a simple title and content layout and then add one or two custom layouts—like a team introduction slide or a product showcase slide—using your brand’s colors and your preferred headline font. For example, set up a slide dedicated to highlighting key team members with consistent headshots and roles, or design a product spotlight slide that seamlessly incorporates your logo and colour palette. Once you see how much time you save—and how polished your slides look—you’ll wonder why you avoided it. In the book, I break it all down step by step, so you can build confidence without feeling overwhelmed. And honestly, once you master this, you’ll feel like you’ve unlocked a secret level in PowerPoint.
And let’s not forget about Notes Master! Many presenters forget that PowerPoint isn’t just about what’s on the screen—it’s also about what your audience takes away. By using Notes Master, you can keep your slides clean and visual while adding detailed explanations in the notes section for handouts or PDFs. This way, your audience gets the full context without cluttering your slides with text. You can format those handouts consistently, so everything looks professional from screen to print. It’s a win-win: your slides stay engaging, and your attendees still have all the information they need
Picture this: you’re building a 30-slide training deck. Without Slide Master, you’re manually adjusting every slide to match your brand. With Slide Master, you set it up once, and every new slide automatically looks perfect. That’s hours saved—and stress avoided. If you leverage the Notes Master too, then you get a formatted training document and a visually appealing presentation.
Geetesh: What kind of PowerPoint user do you hope picks up this book and says, “this was exactly what I needed”?
Chantal: This book is for anyone who’s tired of creating “just another presentation.” If you’re a business professional who presents regularly, a trainer who needs to keep learners engaged, or even someone who only creates slides occasionally but wants them to look professional—this is for you.
If you’ve ever felt frustrated by PowerPoint’s complexity/hidden features or wished your slides could make a stronger impact, you’ll find practical tips, design strategies, and even guidance on using AI tools to make your workflow easier. My goal is for readers to finish the book and say, “I didn’t just learn PowerPoint—I learned how to communicate better.”
If you’ve ever struggled with messy slides, wasted hours on formatting, or wondered how to make your presentations more impactful, Microsoft PowerPoint Mastery is your roadmap. It’s not just about learning features—it’s about mastering the art of visual storytelling and embracing tools that make your life easier. Ready to elevate your presentations? Start your journey toward true PowerPoint mastery.
