Harman Singh

Harman Singh
Harman Singh is the Founder and CEO of two Internet platforms – authorSTREAM and WiZiQ. authorSTREAM is a PowerPoint sharing platform striving to make your presentations sharable on the Web – whether they are viewed from desktops, mobile phones or tablets like iPad.

authorSTREAM recently surpassed the million count in its membership — Harman discusses the million members celebrations and more exclusively in this conversation.

Geetesh: authorSTREAM just crossed the landmark figure of a million registered members – how does that make you feel, and how prepared are you to welcome the next million?

Harman: Yes, we just crossed the million members milestone and look forward to the next million. We highly value our users and thank them for helping us get there. Although authorSTREAM is now three years old, we added a bulk of the users only in the last few months – thanks to our growing popularity and a few new features that we added recently, such as support for presentations on iPad, re-launch of our Facebook app and a bigger view of the presentations for a better viewing experience.

The groundwork is done and we are hoping to reach the next million by the mid of 2011. We already have a series of upcoming features connected with our marketing strategy and will be releasing them accordingly. I am sure we will get a wider acceptance of those features from our audience as usual.

Geetesh: Tell us about the Million Members Celebration Contest, and the chance to win an iPad each week.

Harman: We have announced a month-long contest as a part of the festivities. An iPad to be won each week for four weeks till September 19th. We have asked our members to simply sign in and upload good quality presentations and tweet them, to be included in the draw of lots to be held every week resulting in one lucky member winning an iPad. There is no limit to the number of presentations you can upload during the contest but they should be of good content and the authors need to follow the rules. We decided to celebrate this occasion with authorSTREAM members so that they can showcase their creativity through PowerPoint presentations and get a chance to win an iPad. More details on the contest and the rules can be found at the Million Members Celebration Contest page.

PowerPoint can save to an amazing number of file types — but it can also open 23 file types! Although that sounds like a large number of file formats, more than half that number comprise PowerPoint’s own formats that Microsoft has created over the years. And of course, they need to make sure with every release that all those formats continue to be accepted! They haven’t been that kind to non-Microsoft formats although you can still import WordPerfect outlines (yes, I was surprised to see that too!).

See the entire list of files that PowerPoint 2010 can open.

David Klein

David KleinIf you have a new Windows Mobile equipped phone, or if you are considering buying a new phone — then you must look at how PowerPoint Mobile 2010 works with the free Presentation Companion add-in for PowerPoint 2007 and 2010. Chances are this factor is powerful enough to influence your decision!

We bring you all the info you need, from getting started with Presentation Companion to setting the actual connections with PowerPoint Mobile 2010. Finally, we show you how you can control the presentation itself from PowerPoint Mobile.

Thanks to Rohit Bhatia of Microsoft who helped me with my questions on this feature.

Just yesterday, Abdelkader Aissaoui provided us with a sample animated slide that demonstrated an Airport Flight Schedule Counter. And now he provides us with a Scratch Card that you can actually scratch inside PowerPoint! This slide mimics how you would scratch a card to reveal some numbers — either as a pay phone card that he illustrates — or even as a scratch card that promises a reward.

Please feel free to download this presentation and change your own “scratched message” as required.

This presentation was submitted by Abdelkader Aissaoui who is a mechanical engineer from Algeria. He works as a Reservoir Engineer in an oil company. As part of his job, he needs to create presentations often. This has helped him develop his PowerPoint skills. Abdelkader plays with visual effects and animation tricks to keep his audiences focused and concentrated.
