Dinesh AwasthiDinesh Awasthi is Product Manager for In addition to developing the strategic product roadmap and implementation of various features on authorSTREAM, he works with the development team and keeps an eye on user feedback to formulate new releases. Dinesh holds a Masters degree in Computer Applications.

In this conversation, Dinesh discusses authorSTREAM’s Facebook app that brings new abilities to share PowerPoint presentations on Facebook.

Geetesh: Tell us more about your new Facebook app that lets users upload PowerPoint slides right from within the app.

Dinesh: Our Facebook app provides people an easy way to upload, share, and play their presentations on a Facebook timeline. Facebook users have been looking for such a feature — they have been sharing photos, messages, and videos all the while, but sharing presentations on Facebook was an extremely difficult task.

With the authorSTREAM app, it’s now possible to run PowerPoint slideshows right from your timeline. An animated presentation will play like a YouTube video on your timeline since we support animations, music, narrations, rehearsed timings, and other PowerPoint effects.

Although authorSTREAM users always had the alternative to grab the URL of a presentation and post it on their Facebook wall, there were many who wanted to share directly from Facebook. They can do that now with this app — upload presentations directly from Facebook and share them on their timeline, pages or groups.

We believe we have finally put the missing brick on the Facebook wall with this app. Users can now enjoy sharing presentations the way they enjoy sharing videos.

Geetesh: Do uploads via Facebook also sync with a user’s authorSTREAM account – also does this mean that a user needs to be an authorSTREAM member to use the Facebook features?

Dinesh: Syncing is optional. One need not be a member of authorSTREAM to upload and share PowerPoint presentations on Facebook using our app. Facebook users can continue to upload and share presentations on Facebook as long as they wish without creating an account on authorSTREAM.

However, creating an account on authorSTREAM and syncing your Facebook uploads with it has its own advantages. It will enable automatic cross posting of public presentations on Facebook and authorSTREAM. In other words, any presentation uploaded on Facebook instantly gets uploaded on authorSTREAM too and vice versa.

Besides saving upload time, your Facebook presentations are also watched on authorSTREAM generating more traffic and they also get indexed in search engines resulting in more shares and views.
