Geetesh: Julie, you are delivering three sessions this year at the virtual Presentation Summit: The Makeover Mentor, The Science of Art, and Template Check-up. Can you tell us more about what you cover in these sessions, and what are the takeaways can expect from them?

Julie: The Makeover Mentor session is all about before and after examples. Patrons can submit their “before” presentations as candidates for a makeover. During the session we’ll examine the before slides and look at some of the issues that should be addressed. As we look at the makeovers, I’ll share what elements I changed and why. We’ll discuss suggestions for further improvements and share ideas that you can apply to your presentations.

The Science of Art will uncover the presentation design process – key steps to take you from blank slides to a beautifully designed deck. You’ll learn about things to consider before you begin, which assets to gather, and how to apply design elements throughout a presentation.

In the Template Check-up session, we’ll look under the hood of a few PowerPoint templates. We’ll examine successful features as well as template fails. You’ll take away best practices to make your templates work better for everyone who will use them.

Geetesh: The Presentation Summit enters its 20th year this time. Please share some of your experiences at this Summit over the years.

Julie: Time flies when you’re having fun! Nineteen years ago, I timidly delivered a couple of sessions on presentation design. That same year (I missed year one) I met you, Geetesh, and other PowerPoint MVPs who I knew and respected from online forums. That event launched lifelong friendships, business partnerships, and was a pivotal point for my business. I’ve met so many patrons who are eager to learn and appreciative of all our efforts to teach them about creating better presentations. I’m excited to present again this year and looking forward to learning new tips and tricks from others.
