Recosoft announced PDF2Office Professional 3.0 for Mac OS X, a major upgrade to the PDF-to-Office format conversion tool. Version 3.0 offers over 200 new features and enhancements, as well as the ability to convert PDF files to Macintosh PowerPoint 98-2004 and Windows PowerPoint 97-2003 formats.

Microsoft Corp. has decided to open up its Office file formats and has submitted the formats to be considered for recognition as a formal standard by Ecma International, which will develop the documentation and make it available to the industry. Opening the MS Office document format takes a step toward eventually ensuring that those customers who do not use Office will be able to work with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel documents without having to buy the software.

Although details are still sketchy at this time, partners close to Microsoft have indicated that work has begun on a version of Office 12 for mobile devices. Microsoft Watch reported that the update will include refreshes of the mobile versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, which have been included with Windows-based PDAs for years, in addition to a mobile version of the company’s OneNote product.
