PowerPoint is a slide program but that doesn’t mean that it does not have some cool picture editing tricks up its sleeve. When we say “cool”, we certainly do not mean just inserting a picture, or even the fact that you can apply corrections or recolor hues. PowerPoint 2010 introduced a new option to make your pictures look different, almost like using a filter effect in Adobe Photoshop. PowerPoint provides around 23 filters as part of its new Artistic Effects option. Some of these filters (effects) can make your pictures look like paintings or sketches, and others can change the texture of your pictures. Apply any effect of your choice, and make sure you play around with all the options available to be aware of the surprisingly different results you can achieve right within PowerPoint.

When you are typing in some text into your text box, you might have seen that PowerPoint automatically reduces the size of your text when you type in too much text, or the text container itself increases in size when you type in a little extra text than what can fit. Does this automatic hand-holding by PowerPoint interrupting your work? Well, you really don’t have to worry because you can control this default behavior of PowerPoint.

Lisa Johnson is vice president of SlideShark marketing for Brainshark, Inc. Brainshark’s cloud-based software lets users create online and mobile video presentations — using simple business tools like PowerPoint and the phone or computer microphone — and share and track their content. Brainshark is also the creator of the free SlideShark app for viewing, presenting and sharing PowerPoints on the iPad and iPhone.
In this conversation, Lisa discusses an important milestone for SlideShark — with the app surpassing 1 million downloads — as well as SlideShark’s new integrations with Google Drive and EMC’s Syncplicity.
Geetesh: Can you tell us about the 1 million plus downloads for SlideShark, and what this means for all of you?
Lisa: Reaching, and actually surpassing, the 1 million download mark is a really exciting milestone for us. We are certainly very proud!
It is hugely validating to know that people across the globe — individual and corporate users in more than 140 different countries — rely on SlideShark for their presentation needs, whether it’s preparing for meetings, presenting or following up afterward. SlideShark’s momentum in the market inspires all of us to continue to innovate and make SlideShark an indispensable tool for mobile professionals.
One million downloads speaks to SlideShark’s rapid adoption and the fact that we meet a critical need among iOS users. Prior to our launch a year ago, there was no way to properly and reliably view and present PowerPoints on the iPad and iPhone. We are now the industry standard for this — as well as a platform that organizations and individuals rely on to share, track and manage content in the cloud.
We consistently net two downloads per minute, 24×7, and that pace shows no sign of slowing. The launch of our iPhone version in September further solidified SlideShark’s place as a top “Productivity App” in Apple’s App Store.
Geetesh: You also announced some new features such as integrations with Google Drive and Syncplicity — how is this important for your users?
Lisa: We are constantly looking for ways to help mobile professionals be more productive. Integrating SlideShark with cloud storage providers gives our users access to the presentations they’ve stored in the cloud, directly from their SlideShark account — which saves them time and helps them stay organized on the road. To that end, we have integrated with Google Drive and EMC’s Syncplicity, in addition to Box and Dropbox.
Now, through our new integrations with Google Drive and Syncplicity, SlideShark users benefit from even greater access to their cloud-based presentations. They can tap a button within SlideShark to view and import the PowerPoints they’ve stored with these leading cloud storage providers.
Once the content is in SlideShark, users can view and present it intact on their iOS devices — while taking advantage of SlideShark’s presentation tracking and analytics, and features for following up and sharing content. In addition, our integration with Syncplicity enables organizations to benefit from Syncplicity’s IT policy enforcement features, including remote-wipe capabilities.
We continue to innovate to support our users with new features and want to thank you, Geetesh, for the opportunity to discuss SlideShark!
